Crafted entirely from steel sheets, the "Juoksenki" embraces the unexpected beauty that can emerge from the creative process. Each piece is hand-cut using a plasma cutter and carefully welded together, but its most striking feature is the unique surface texture — a result of an accidental yet fortuitous mistake in welding.
Normally, welding gas prevents oxidation by keeping oxygen away from the steel during the weld. Without the gas, the steel surface oxidizes, creating a textured, porous effect that is usually avoided. However, the artist saw the beauty in this unintended outcome and used it as a central element of the design.
After welding, the steel is cleaned, treated to prevent rust, burnished to enhance its texture, and coated for protection. The result is a piece that balances raw materiality with refined craftsmanship, showing how unexpected processes can shape a work in new and intriguing ways.
